Survey Finds iPad Awareness as High as Kindle’s

Apple’s iPad multimedia tablet device might not ship until April 3, but a significant number of consumers are already thinking about buying it, according to the results of a survey to be released late Monday.

Market research firm comScore said Internet users it surveyed were as aware of the upcoming iPad as they are of Amazon’s Kindle, the dominant e-book reader today. Fifteen percent of the survey respondents said they were “seriously considering” buying the iPad in the next three months, which was slightly higher than the 14 percent of respondents who are considering buying the Kindle in the same period.

Cool video of first Porsche electric car and new 918 hybrid concept

Porsche just released a video showing the new 918 Spyder concept – setting the stage by taking a look back at the very first car designed by a Porsche way back in 1900. The Porsche 918 was a bit of a surprise leaking out just ahead of this week’s Geneva Motor Show launch. Porsche is telling us that we can have our cake and eat it too with the 918. It’s a parallel hybrid with both a 500-horsepower V8 and a pair of electric motors adding another 218 hp. That’s enough power to launch this Carrera GT-like supercar from 0-62 mph in 3.2 seconds as it charges on to a 198 mph top end. The best part about it is that Porsche says it can also return 78 miles per gallon while emitting just 70 grams of carbon dioxide per kilometer.

The Apple iPad

By now you’ve probably read more on Apple’s iPad then you ever dreamed possible. In the last few weeks we’ve covered a lot of angles on the tablet and compiled a lot of data.

In case you can’t tell by looking at the thing, the iPad does — indeed — resemble a large iPhone (actually, more like an iPod touch). The front of the device is a large, smooth piece of glass with no buttons save for the familiar “home” button in a bottom center location. The 9.7-inch display is surrounded by thick black bezel. Around back the look is familiar as well, something of a cross between the back of a 3GS and a MacBook Air — smooth aluminum which slightly curves and tapers along the sides. On the top of the iPad there’s a power / sleep button on the right and a headphone jack on the left, while along the right side you’ve got a volume rocker and sound kill switch. On the bottom of the pad is a 30-pin dock connector jack and speaker vents.

The latest rumor is that it will go on sale on Friday the 26th of March. Get your credit cards ready!
